What better way to start off the new year than with some self-love? Cos if you don’t love yourself first, who will? :P
I can’t remember what brought it on, but I googled about modeling and photography and came across some listings. Oh wait, now I remember: I was corresponding with this guy about a shoot with FH.M (yeah, that was a moment of insanity) and I realized that I didn’t have good photos of me with short hair and all the “nice” photos I have are from at least 2 years ago. So I googled just to see what I could find. And I found listings of (amateur) photographers doing TF.CD which is basically a quid pro quo situation: no money is exchanged, the photog gets to expand his portfolio and the model gets to expand hers.
I contacted one of the photogs whose portfolio looked pretty good. I was thinking of a street/urban type of feel, so that the pics would be appropriate to use on a dance resume as well. We ended up doing it quite last minute on Saturday afternoon about 2 wees ago.
It was an outdoor shoot obviously, to accommodate my street/urban theme. Clothes-wise, I decided to go with the type of funky casualwear I’m usually in. We started at this random alley near Raffl.es Plac.e but we spent most of the session along this shophouse back alley in Ta.njong P.agar. Fortuitously, the weather was good and we found a construction site wherein the workers didn’t shoo us away from using their workspace. Hahahahaaa.
I’d say maybe 1/3 of the shoot was styled in a hip-hop/urban/street kinda theme, in terms of what I was wearing. Then I changed into heels, took off my puffa vest and it became more of a model-y kind of feel, even though the location was the construction site. And then later on, I was in a dress (although I paired it with my Adid.as boots for some funk) and we got some emo-ish type of photos thanks to the play of shadow and light. That happened in quite a public place along this small side road and people were giving us amused looks, hahaha.
Even though it deviated from my original intent, I think there were some really good shots in there. I didn’t really get a glimpse of the first 1/3 so I dunno how that turned out but the other 2/3 was pretty cool. I saw one really awesome headshot where the light fell perfectly on my face and it looked like I was glowing or something. \o/ There were a few with me standing in this doorway with sunlight behind me and the contrast was so lovely. And some of the ones with the shadow/light dichotomy looked gorgeous.
Taking photos is funnnnn. It was cool to kinda have carte blanche, quite an A NTM-feeling, hahahahahaa. Unlike the jobs I’ve done before where they’re looking for a specific shot/image, this was more free, more fun, more I’m-a-model! feeling. LOL. It’ll be interesting to see how many of the shots I like cos I feel like I’m still not self-aware enough to know what angles/poses really work for me. I mean, I have an idea but I still detected some awkwardness and bad angles, hahaha. If I can get like 10-15 photos that I absolutely positively unequivocally love, I’ll consider that a success. Heh. (That’s quite a low ratio since I think we took a lot “” of photos.)
So I got some of the shots and these are the ones I like and/or I think don’t completely suck.
(Disclaimer: Self-indulgent and image-heavy. LOL)
